Alicia Jackson

Walking her way to better health…and better air

Alicia Jackson never imagined she could reach her fitness goal of losing 60 pounds. But, by taking the Metro Atlanta Walk There Challenge , she not only reached her weight loss goal, but surpassed it by 11 pounds!

Before signing up for the Walk Challenge, Alicia was dieting but just couldn’t find the time or energy to exercise. When the Challenge sign up began, Alicia knew it was the motivation she needed to get active and get out of her car. She and her co-workers signed up and caught “Walk Challenge fever,” setting their own personal fitness goals with each other too. Using her pedometer from Buckhead Area Transportation Management Association (BATMA), Alicia took every opportunity to walk. By the end of the month-long Walk Challenge, Alicia had logged 264,226 steps. That’s almost the equivalent of walking from Atlanta to Macon and back again!

Even though the Challenge ended, Alicia’s walking lifestyle has become a healthy habit. She’s incorporated walking into her daily routine. When Alicia goes out to lunch or runs errands after work, she doesn’t immediately jump in her car. Instead, she straps on her walking shoes and walks everywhere she can.
