Lathem Time
High gas prices spur action
With skyrocketing gas prices after hurricanes struck the Gulf Coast in 2005, Lathem Time employees expressed concerns about commute challenges.
Lathem Time management responded with a compressed workweek pilot program that allows employees to work four 10-hour days to eliminate one day of commuting for each employee, which resulted in an immediate 20% savings on commute costs. The program received such positive feedback from employees that it was implemented on a permanent basis. Lathem Time also formalized its teleworking program. The result: 60 percent of employees benefit from the transportation programs now in place.
